1939 Piper J-3
Project Location:
Princeton, New Jersey N25911 |
$17,500
This
Cub has a total time of 3,780 hours since the factory test flight on
November 8, 1939. The logs are complete (4 airframe logbooks) and
sequential since that date.
The Cub was bought new by the
Brinkerhoff Flying Service of College Park, Maryland. When the
Civilian Pilot Training Program began during WWII, the aircraft was
moved to Buckhannon, West Virginia where one of the Brinkerhoff CPT
schools was located. After the program ended, the Cub was sold to a
local pilot and continued to fly. According to the logbooks, it's
last flight was in 1951.
In 1970 the aircraft was
discovered in a barn near Buckhannon where it had been stored since
1952.
In late 1970 the aircraft was restored and recovered
with Ceconite 101. The engine was converted from the original
Lycoming 50 horsepower to the Continental A-65 and a freshly Major
Overhauled engine was installed. The engine has accumulated just
over 300 hours since.
The aircraft was last annualed in
August 2012 and was dissembled later that year to facilitate
storage, due to the financial difficulties of the Lessor.
Other
than the missing carburetor the aircraft is complete and there is no
damage to either the airframe or engine. It has been hangered since
the restoration and the Ceconite still checks in the green. The
aircraft needs only the carburetor and assembly to become a flying
project and fresh paint in the conventional Cub Yellow would make it
a respectable antique. It retains the original factory split V
windshield, which is very rare. It also has the sealed wing struts,
which eliminates the AD.

find. |
